What a day on the Match Lake last Saturday. Forty-two anglers lined the pegs from 7am sharp, and the fish were in a cooperative mood from the off.
The top three weights were:
1st Place — Dave Thornton (Peg 12) — 47lb 8oz
2nd Place — Carl Baines (Peg 3) — 41lb 2oz
3rd Place — Sue Fletcher (Peg 19) — 38lb 14oz
Dave’s winning method was a short pole line at 5 metres with red maggot over groundbait, picking off a steady run of skimmers and bream throughout the session. A late flurry of carp in the final hour sealed the win.
The overall standard was excellent with most pegs recording double-figure weights — a real testament to how well stocked the lake is heading into spring.
Our next open match is scheduled for the last Saturday of next month. Entry is £15 per person and pegs are draw-only on the day. Gates open at 6am.
